On Oct. 22nd, 2010, Regie Routman will present an all-day NHASCD conference on “Sustaining School-wide Change: What Really Matters for Effective Teaching, Learning and Leading.” She will provide participants with a model for whole school and district change that emphasizes long-term collaboration, strong instructional leadership and coaching, effective teaching of reading and writing, and engaging professional conversations. The day will focus on creating a culture that promotes deep and lasting change for more meaningful, effective, joyful teaching and learning – and how to sensibly prepare for and achieve high test results for all students.

Regie Routman is an internationally respected teacher and author. Her teaching experience includes working as a classroom teacher, a reading specialist, a learning disabilities tutor, a Reading Recovery teacher, a language arts mentor teacher, a literacy coach, and a staff developer.

Regie Routman’s books provide extensive research-based strategies for effective teaching and learning, particularly in literacy and language arts. These include Teaching Essentials: Expecting the Most and Getting the Best from Every Learner, K-8 (2008), Writing Essentials: Raising Expectations and Results While Simplifying Teaching (2005), and Reading Essentials: The Specifics You Need to Teach Reading Well (2003). She is also the author of Conversations: Strategies for Teaching, Learning, and Evaluating (2000) and Kids’ Poems: Teaching Children to Love Writing Poetry (2000). Her most recent endeavor is the publication of video-based, job-embedded, professional development programs on reading and writing, Regie Routman in Residence (Heinemann, 2008, 2009).
